Compress PDF for SSC Applications

Get certificates and supporting documents down to the size the SSC portal accepts, without uploading them anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

What size does SSC want for documents?

It depends on the notification and on which upload field you are filling. The exact limit is stated in the notification and on the upload page. Read it there and enter that number — do not rely on a figure from a third-party site, including this one.

Can I upload my certificate as a photo instead of a PDF?

Only if the field accepts an image. Document fields usually require a PDF while photo and signature fields require an image. Check what the field expects before converting.

My certificate is 4MB from my phone. Will it compress enough?

For a single page, almost certainly. Phone photographs of documents are mostly sensor noise, which compresses very well.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. Compression runs in your browser using your own device. The file never leaves it, which matters for identity documents, marksheets and financial records.

Is there a watermark, sign-up or limit?

None of the three. The tool is free, adds nothing to your document and does not require an account.

What SSC asks you to upload

An SSC online application typically needs a photograph, a signature and, depending on the post and the category you are applying under, supporting documents such as a category certificate, an education certificate or a disability certificate. Each has its own upload box and each has its own size limit.

Find the limit before you compress

The exact figures are printed in the notification PDF and repeated on the upload page itself, and they change between notifications. Read the limit for the specific field you are uploading into rather than assuming a single number applies to everything. Then enter that figure in the target box, or pick the matching size page below.

Photographs and signatures are images, not PDFs

SSC generally wants the photograph and signature as image files, not PDFs, with their own pixel dimensions and size limits. Those are a different job from compressing a document — the photo and signature tools linked below handle the dimension rules as well as the size.

Why nothing is uploaded here

A category or disability certificate contains personal information you should not be handing to a random website. This tool compresses inside your browser, so the document never reaches any server, including ours.
